Hard rock forged in the void.
Named for the vast band of cosmic dust that splits the Milky Way in two, Great Dark Rift makes psychedelic rock that lives up to its namesake — heavy, expansive, and built for staring into the void.
Formed in 2023 in the Milky Way, the band — Steve Powers & Haj — draws from Sly Stone, James Brown, and Funkadelic: classic psych, space rock, and funk, built into a sound that drifts between hypnotic grooves and full-throttle cosmic noise.
That orbit recently pulled in one of music's true originators. On "In The Great Dark Rift (Rockamental)," the band joins forces with Afrika Bambaataa — the godfather of electro-funk whose "Planet Rock" rewired popular music — fusing his interstellar funk lineage with the band's guitar-driven psychedelia. The result is a track that collapses fifty years of cosmic music into one transmission.
"The music never dies. It just moves to a bigger stage."
